We are always curious to see the finished printed products our customers produce and to read what inspired them to create a printed piece. This month we interviewed 2013 fashion student Rebecca Strickland, who printed with us for her fashion college final capsule collection.
What inspired you for your fashion collection?
I was given 5 different briefs to choose from for my end of year work at TAFE. I chose the pastel compilation because it reflected my girly personality, I also wanted to challenge myself in the print factor being as if I did pastel I had to design an iconic sport print and felt like I was up for the challenge because it was out of the norm for me being a girly girl and not focused on sports.
Who is your favourite designer?
Suboo would have to be my favourite. They are well known for their swimwear at Fashion Week but their dresses are amazing! Loving the new floral prints they came out with this season.
Why do you think fashion prints are a good element to have in your designs?
Without fashion prints designs would be boring and incomplete. The Fashion industry is running out of unique silhouette’s and design lines. Fashion print is the most original and self-expressive way in your garment and it reflects you as a designer and no one can steal that.
What are your plans for the future?
I am 8 months out of TAFE now and working for an online Fashion Shoe Store. I have found it to be very challenging as I have steered away from the design aspect of Fashion which I learnt at TAFE, but I absolutely love it. In the future I hope to be an inspiring social media manager for an Online Iconic Brand.

Since Mary Katrantzou first collection in Fall 2009 we fell in love with her use of Digital printing and simple garment shapes. This season she steered away from her signature Digital Prints and instead focused on embroidery, beautiful fabrics and pleats. Although Digital Printing is nowhere to be seen we love the use of embroidery to create a pattern, the garments speak for themselves, a beautiful collection and a designer we will always be inspired by.

As you can probably guess we are crazy about prints and printing here at Digital Fabrics, so when Fashion week begins we keep a sharp eye on the designers who add a little special printed elements to their designs. A few Designers we love to watch are Mara Hoffman, Libertine, creatures of the wind,Honor, J.crew and Lela Rose just to name a few. As we view the updates coming from New York fashion week, we spotted one Designer duo with a unique look at mixing pop culture with high fashion. Rodarte’s Latest was inspired by childhood nostalgia and these Star Wars inspired gowns took us right back to our own childhood. What do you think of these gowns?

Nothing says Christmas portrait like an ugly sweater.
//www.keatleyphoto.com/blog/2008/12/christmas-sweaters-and-little-stuffed-goats/
While we here in the southern hemisphere are lucky enough to have a warm Christmas (fingers crossed it’s not so humid, it rains, unless there’s a draught somewhere…in that case, wish for rain from Santa), we do miss out on the hilarity and fun that is the Christmas sweater.
Some look as though they have been made purely to win worst dressed at the annual ugly Christmas sweater parties that are happening all over the northern hemisphere as you read this, some could be considered cute and others relatively tame when you see the imagination that goes into decorating this festive treat. Don’t think yourself crazy to want to add lashings of tinsel, Christmas ornaments or even flashing lights to your get up because you won’t be alone in this Halloween-ish costume extravaganza.
It’s almost a shame that, while our northern comrades snuggle up in their tacky (mostly) acrylic ‘jumpers’ and nurse a sickly sweet spiked egg nog, we here in the south miss out on the chance to don our upper bodies with a hand knitted masterpiece that someone once thought to be the height of holiday fashion! All we get to do lazy about by the pool or by the soft licks of the air con trying desperately to avoid any sudden movements lest it disturb the abundantly fully stomach or raise a sweat and wear a little as possible without raising any grandparental eyebrows.
With Christmas just a breath away, and a chance to get in on a warm climate version of the tacky sweater, what festive season prints are you coming up with? Make sure to get your print orders in lickety split and have everyone admiring your get-up over lunch on the 25th!
If you’re stuck for ideas, a quick image search will have you come up apples!
